Averill Park Central School District Physics teacher, Karyn Rees, worked with SUNY Polytechnic Institute this summer as part of the Questar III BOCES STEM Research Institute.
Mrs. Rees worked closely with SUNY Poly’s Professor Dunn and observed both graduate students and undergrad students.
Throughout the program, Mrs. Rees trained on various microscopes, including Focused Ion Beam (FIB), Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and Atomic Force Microscope (AFM). She also designed labs and used physics to understand computer chips.
Mrs. Rees learned about a number of topics throughout the summer that she will bring into the classroom this year, including topics such as nanotechnology, electroplating, integrated circuits, logic gates and thin film interference.
