  7. State Assessment Results Up...

The State Education Department recently released the results of the 2019 Grades 3-8 English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics tests.

At Averill Park Central School District, scores rose for both assessments. In ELA, 56% of students were proficient in 2018 with that number rising to 60% for 2019. In Mathematics, 59% of students were proficient in 2018 with the number moving to 66% in 2019.

Both numbers are far above the 2019 statewide average of 45.4% (ELA) and 46.7% (Math).

“Our students and staff members have worked hard to increase our proficiency levels and the results of these assessments is a testament to the dedication shown throughout our schools,” Superintendent Dr. James Franchini said. “I am very proud of these assessment results. We are 15 percent higher than the state average in ELA and 20 percent higher in math! Our staff continues to deliver on our mission statement to meet the needs of and create opportunities for every student every day.”
