  7. APHS Welcomes Mrs. Murray...

There are many new faces in the Averill Park Central School District and two of them are entering into the high school for the first time this year. Welcome to AP Ms. Gomes and Mrs. Murray!

Ashley Gomes, Mathematics

GomesMs. Gomes has been teaching middle school mathematics for five years in a city outside of Boston, Massachusetts prior to venturing out to Averill Park. She holds an undergraduate degree in Sociology and Education from the University of Massachusetts, and a

Master’s in Education with a focus on Mathematics from American International College.

“I recently moved to the Albany area. I was looking for a school district that shared the same teaching values as my own, where I could become a part of the community, and continue to grow as an educator,” she said.

Fun Fact! Ms. Gomes has a commercial driver’s license and drove buses while in college. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with friends, baking, traveling and reading. After moving from Massachusetts earlier this summer, she has been enjoying exploring upstate New York.

Crystle Murray, Behavioral Interventionist

MurrayMrs. Murray received her Bachelor of Arts degree at Plattsburgh State University, where she majored in Psychology. She also has a Master’s of Science in Education in Mental Health Counseling through The College of Saint Rose, and a License in Mental Health Counseling. In 2018, Mrs. Murray returned to school and received her Certificate in Advanced Study in School Counseling.

This will be Mrs. Murray’s first year working in a school district, though she has several years of experience working in the mental health field at local residential agencies and clinics.

“Working with the Averill Park communities in my past career endeavors motivated me to return to school and obtain my certification to work full time in a school setting,” she said.

Fun Fact! Mrs. Murray is the youngest of seven children. She enjoys spending time with her children and family, reading, watching movies and taking walks with her German Shepherd.
