Over February break, high school math teacher Ms. Nicole Freeman traveled to Jinja, Uganda with The Giving Circle and three other Capital Region teachers to present to Ugandan teachers on questioning techniques, the benefits of a growth mindset, The 8 Mathematical Practices, reading and language teaching strategies, and social emotional learning practices.
The mission was to raise teacher competency through culturally appropriate methods that are good for all learners. Following the conference, the group went into local schools to meet students and observe teachers putting what they learned into practice.
