  7. Kelly O’Neill-Knasick Earns New...

Averill Park High School senior Kelly O’Neill-Knasick has been selected as a Capital District Fellow and has received a new scholarship from UAlbany.

The scholarship, the Capital District Leadership Award, recognizes students with a passion for leadership and noteworthy leadership and service experiences.

To qualify for the scholarship, Kelly had to have two teacher recommendations and write an essay. The next step for those selected as finalists was an interview.

Kelly and 19 other students were chosen as Fellows and will receive $3,000 annually for a total of $12,000.

“The selection committee was inspired while reading the essays and recommendations for all students who applied for this distinction,” UAlbany Associate Director, Elizabeth Conrad, said in a release. “The campus community looks forward to the contributions these students will bring to UAlbany, and the role that they will play here as a peer leader.”

Kelly has also been selected for the UAlbany honors program and plans on studying Biology and Chemistry.
