The Averill Park Central School District has partnered with the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York for a child-specific nutritional program called The BackPack Program. This program is currently operating in 133 schools in New York State, serving over 3,500 students in 20 different counties!

The BackPack Program provides a child with a bag of non-perishable, easy to prepare food every Friday afternoon to be enjoyed throughout the weekend. The food is placed in a bag and distributed discreetly. The empty bag is returned to school on Monday. There is no cost to families to participate in this program.

Averill Park’s BackPack program serves 45 children each week amongst the three elementary schools.

Students in AP Connections pack and deliver food for the weekly BackPack program to all three elementary schools. AP Connections 
was established in the 2016-17 school year to support a group of students ages 17+ as they prepare to enter the workforce once they leave AP.
